Sundbyskolan School

Stockholm, Sweden

Our school is a big school with nearly 900 children from grade 0 to 9 in the west of Stockholm. It's an old part of the capital. Already the Vikings lived here and sailed on the waterway that passed the school, though it´s just a small creek today. But we have some remains from that time. Among other things one of the finest rune-carvings in Sweden. You can see a part of it in the picture. It has become our school emblem.

Today March 12th we started in the morning with listening to our teacher Peter reading from a book called The Black Brothers by Lisa Tetzner. It's a sad story but the end is said to be happy. After that we had math. At the moment we work with time. When that lesson was over we had a 15 minutes break in the wonderful spring weather. Most of us played hide and seek in the school yard.

When we came back in we had art. The job was to draw a friends face without looking at the paper or lifting the pencil. It was quite hard, and the result looked really funny. Peter is going to copy the papers and then we will work it up later. After a short break we had Geography. We read and wrote about Småland, a part in the south of Sweden.

Then we went to the dining-hall for lunch. All Swedish school-children have free lunch. Today we were served Swedish blood-pudding, with lingonberry jam. Some thought it was delicious, others disgusting. It´s made from pigs blood. The we had a long lunch break. Some boys played football, some girls played with the computers in our classroom, we have 7 but only 4 works. Others played hide and seek again or just enjoyed the free time.

After the break we had Swedish with Anna. Some pupils presented something personal, like an animal or a price they had won in a cup or a contest. In the end of that lesson we went to the rune-carving and had our picture taken.

After that school was over for the day. Some of us went to the Club, an after school recreation centre for pupils in the 4th to the 6th grade. Others went home. Only the homework in English remained.

With Peter´s and a dictionary´s help we have written this, and we think that Our Day Today was, said in 23 expressions: cool, not too bad, great, warm, fine, good, hard, very good, sunny, fun, perfect, just fine, fantastic, boring, excellent, incredible, happy, nice, springlike, sweaty, hot, lovely, beautiful. Or said in one sentence: It was a more or less ordinary day.
