Upgrades Completed!

Performing the upgrades

When the Brixton Connections Project started just over a year ago, our 15 Primary schools were issued with a Dan 486, Microsoft Windows 3.11, RM ClassMate and Internet Chameleon software through funding from the Brixton Challenge.

After much hard work and appeals for help to hardware and software manufacturers, all the schools had their hardware and software updated at the end of the Spring term, 1997.

Microsoft UK very kindly supplied us with copies of Windows 95, Internet Explorer 3.0 and Internet Mail and News. Dan Technology let us have ram upgrades at a special price and RM did the same with Classmate 95. The total cost to the schools was £52 per machine.

Teachers from each of the project schools brought their machines to the Centre and performed the upgrade themselves with expert help. The whole process took three days. However, colleagues are delighted with the new software and extra speed of their systems.

However, we still need sponsors to carry this project forward. So if there are any other organizations that would like to help or co-sponsor our project. Please get in touch as soon as possible.
