Acceptable Use Policies
As part of their ICT Development plans schools need to address the issue of acceptable use of the Internet. We recommend that schools formulate an 'acceptable use' policy, which covers use of the Internet by all users both in and out of school. The following are points that colleagues should consider when drawing up their policies.
We also recommend that schools get blanket permission to publish pictures and photos on the Internet providing no details are published that could identify individual children. For example, a photo of a group of children working on a drawing. This can be done at the same time as parents/guardians are asked for permission for children to participate in educational visits. If a child can be identified from a picture, then individual permission should be sought.
Colleagues needing additional help with their policies may contact any member of the ICT Development Service for advice.
