1. MINUTES OF THE LAST MEETING
All items covered in the main agenda.
2. WELCOME TO NEW MEMBERS
Tim Downie of Paradigm ICT and Michael Place of Charles Edward Brooke School were welcomed.
3. NGfL DELIVERY PROGRESS REPORT
PRo noted the following progress points:
NGfL changes in second year resulting from OFSTED recommendations and feedback.
More flexibility and more of a focus on raising achievement
Schools bid includes vision of how ICT will raise achievement in their school, any special circumstances affecting the school, and a management contract.
15 applications received so far. SIDD consulted on bids.
7 redevelopment schools included this year.
Looking to provide support for secondary schools. Brief to go out to consultants.
AT to check up on upgrades to IE5 and classmate and to advise.
4. ILS DELIVERY PROGRESS REPORT
JH presented list of schools getting equipment. Phase 3 is about to start concluding in 2000/1. JH noted the following progress points:
Awareness sessions to be held at International House.
Delivery is on target.
Successmaker has been installed on the primary network in ICT 2.
JHlooking at a more flexible provision for schools.
RM keen to use the facility at International House.
A researcher has been identified to evaluate the first stage of the project.
More extensive formative evaluation towards the end of the project.
5. CLASSROOM CONSULTANTS REPORT
Verna-Jean Gervais presented a report and noted the following points:
Schools averaging about 4 days consultant time each.
The consultants are being well received in the schools.
Consultants met with SIDD advisers on 17/9, meeting again on 19/11.
Project outline / lesson plans are left with the school to continue with the work.
They will be visiting phase 2 schools for auditing purposes between January and Easter.
There was a brief discussion on how the consultants could make a lasting impact on the school.
6. EDUCATION EXTRA INITIATIVE - LAMBETH CR.ED
PR presented an outline of the new proposals for Lambeth Extralink, now to be known as Lambeth CR.ED.
The project is to go forward as proposed by Paradigm ICT starting with a group of EAZ schools. Formal launch to be at the December conference.
7. TECHNICAL SUPPORT FOR SCHOOLS
Question rose as to where do schools in Phase 1 go for continuing technical support.
RM & IT Learning Exhange were suggested.
RS reported that managed services are becoming a big issue because of high costs.
Phase 2 schools will receive help with installation issues from the temporary NGfL technician.
RM to send details of their managed services offer.
Schools to be encouraged to subscribe to a managed service.
8. INTERNET/INTRANET STRATEGY
RC has submitted a report, which is attached to these minutes.
Simon Berlin (corporate IT) has requested that the Brixton Connections domain be renamed to Lambeth Connections to fall in line with Council policy. Brixton-connections.org.uk to be retained due to large number of external sites linking to us worldwide.
9. SCHOOLS ELECTRONIC MAIL
PRo reported that Lambeth school domains comply with DfEE convention.
Recommendations have been sent to schools detailing suggested generic addresses. Most schools have complied.
A directory of addresses is near to completion and will be published shortly.
10. ESPRESSO PROJECT
PR reported that Espresso is to be certified by RM shortly.
Espresso to be demonstrated at the December conference.
11. LAMBETH S.W.O.P
PR Reported on the Lambeth schools website sponsorship project now to be named SWOP (Schools web online project).
A discussion paper was presented.
Attending members were invited to comment within 7 days before the document goes to solicitors for legal appraisal.
